Valerian root has been used for thousands of years for its calming, grounding, and balancing influences. During the last three decades, it has been clinically investigated for its relaxing properties. Researchers have pinpointed the sesquiterpenes, valerenic acid, and valerone as the active constituents that exert a calming effect. German health authorities have pronounced valerian to be an effective aid for occasional restlessness at bedtime.

Uses for Valarian Essential Oil

Use Valerian topically on the back of the neck or on the bottoms of feet.

Use Valerian as part of your nighttime routine by diffusing it with Clary Sage next to your bed.

Create a foot soak by combining 3 drops of Valerian and 5 drops of Melaleuca Tea Tree with 1 tablespoon of Young Living V-6™ Vegetable Oil Complex and 1 tablespoon of salt in warm water. Mix well and soak feet in this luxurious bath for 15 minutes.

Relaxation Rollerball
Mix 25 drops each of Valerian, Vetiver, Cedarwood, and Geranium essential oil in an empty 15-ml bottle, then fill it to the top with Young Living V-6™ Vegetable Oil Complex and add the AromaGlide roller top.

Massage the aches away. Treat yourself to a soothing massage with Valerian essential oil after an exhausting workout or a long day at work. Valerian’s grounding aroma is also perfect for relaxing while you massage sore muscles, achy feet, or a tight neck.

Create serene surroundings. Valerian essential oil’s bold, earthy scent pairs well with many other oils. Combine a combination of 4 drops Valerian, 3 drops Orange and 3 drops pine essential oil.

Add one drop of Cedarwood and one drop of Valerian oil to a pump of body cream before applying to dry areas of the body.

Create a homemade dry-skin face serum with one drop each of Valerian, Rosemary, and Lavender, and a few drops of jojoba—or Young LIving Seedlings baby massage oil. Rub into your face at night to help alleviate dry skin.
